Essential Works From the Studio of George Burchett
|
|
Known as the âKing of Tattooists,â George Burchett (1872â1953) built one of the best-known tattoo practices of his era. After developing his skills around sailors and during his travels, he became a full-time tattooist in London in 1900 and went on to tattoo everyone from servicemen and working-class Londoners to members of European royalty. His Waterloo Road studio became a landmark of British tattooing, and his career stretched for more than half a century. Burchett was
also an innovator, experimenting with equipment, incorporating influences gathered from around the world, and becoming an early practitioner of cosmetic tattooing. Essential Works is a perfect companion to Reiterâs 2012 biography, King of the Tattooists: The Life and Work of George Burchett, giving artists, collectors and tattoo-history lovers a closer look at the actual designs behind Burchettâs legacy.

Vintage Thermofax Repair at Luckyâs Tattoo Museum

Earlier this year, we had the pleasure of welcoming Bismark Pinera of Thermofax Repair Seattle to Luckyâs Tattoo Museum in Largo, Florida. He came to visit the museum, talk tattoo history, and â fittingly â repair a Thermofax while he was here.
For a machine that became such a familiar piece of tattoo-shop equipment, the Thermofax started life with a completely different purpose.

Dubbed "The Godfather of American Tattooing" August Bernard "Cap" Coleman was born October 15th, 1884 in Cincinnati Ohio and passed October 20th 1973 in Norfolk, Virgina. He was an American tattoo artist who's tattoo flash designs had a significant influence on his generation of tattooists, and inspired artists including Paul Rogers and Sailor Jerry.
